For Freelance Police-Detective Jonathan Murphy P.I, it's just another slow day boogie-boarding the meme waves in the dystopian near-future... Until he's called down to the Rift Zone to investigate another case of murder gone deadly. A case that Murphy won't soon forget.
I mean there's no reason he would... It's not like he's been asked to memorize a really long number or something. I can remember loads of dumb stuff from like 20 years ago, and none of it was anywhere near this exciting!
Play as post-millennial investigator Jon Murphy, as you point and click your way through a soft-boiled cyberpunk detective story. Featuring over 20 minutes of recorded dialogue - a LOT for a game that's only 10 minutes long. What can I say, dumb cyberpunk jokes are fun to write!

I finished playing Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Dispair like 3 days ago. I thought it was amazing. But then after 2 days I didn´t know what to play. So I went to Gamejolt to see what is new there (becouse I haven´t been there for a long time). I began scrolling down until I found this game that cought my attention. Great game. I loved everything of it!
The game was good, had its humor but why so short? ?
Humor on point, an intersting art-style and a simple story... Enjoyed every moment of this game.
The game itself was pretty decent but the writing/dialogue was painful.
This was pretty fun to start, but I would have liked it WAY better if everything Murphy said was in the same deadpan that the inner monolouge voice used. Maybe it was part of the intended humor/tone, but by 2/3 through I hated the main character's voice so much I watched a YouTube video to see the ending so I could skip the dialogue.
The overall gmae tone was satirically serious, and then there's a goofy idiot saying 'yo', 'doods', and 'LOL' that just kills the humor for me.
A great game with a great humor! We enyoed it very much!
I really enjoyed this short game and hope to see more in the future. Here's a let's play if you are interested!
Fantastic!!! I really enjoyed it! It needs a big release!
The axe gets stuck in my hand and I cant get it away ;(
Right click should put the axe back in your inventory, does that work?
Completely bizarre with wonderfully weird dialogue too. Poor puppy :) Oh well, nothing like a little wanton destruction to solve a case and avoid paying a secretary for another year.
This was an EXCELLENT little game. Even if it is a short thing, its production values were up the roof. This is quality. I would love to see a sequel, or a longer, paid game in this insane universe. Great work!
I fricken love you. This is one of the best things I've played in a long time. This is the part of the comment where I beg for a sequel.
Long live the memes. Of the future.
I have a lot of appreciation for your decision to make a cyberpunk comedy game. The voice acting and art style really stood out here! Well done!
I loved it! I wished there was more though, maybe different cases and whatnot. It's pretty funny and it reminds me of old school games like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Really awesome!
Since we have played Karate Basketball on our channel, we knew to expect some humor in the game but good lord is this densely packed with puns, one-liners, and memes too dank for the average life form! A short game that we'd love to see a second chapter of, Murdercide 2017 takes, well, whatever genre you believe it belongs in, and promptly turns it on its head!
We made a video of our experience for your cyberviewing pleasure! We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed your game!
Aww thanks, you're too kind! Really appreciate it :)
Hey guys , I need help . I just downloaded the Game on Linux . But I can't run it . I've tried to chmod +x it but it is like it doesn't want to ! . Please help !
Ah sorry you couldn't get it going, I'm flying a bit blind with Linux, there's so many distros! I don't really know anything to try tbh... Are you able to run other unity games ok?
Awesome game there are some parts that took forever but its ok :D
Awesome work guys! Great humor, top quality voice acting and dankness, over the top puns about Juice, a very funny and pleasent experience :D
I made a video playing your game:
if you want to check, best of luck in making it a full release, can't wait to see more! Cheers!
Hi!
I love your style, such sort of games are soooo rare!
But I have an issue though - I was playing it on mac and couldn't get rid of the axe. I don't know whether it's a bug or maybe I'm being stupid?
I hope you'll get to do more. <Spoiler> needs to be avenged!
Love your pixel art style, this game plus Riders and Crawl all look dope. Great visuals, a couple laugh out loud moments and fun solutions that feel intuitive.
Let me 'axe' you a question tho: Are there future plans for the series? Like small episodes or a single larger installment?
Thanks! Barney's the real artist of the team (He did Crawl, RHB and Maitre D) I just cheat by using extremely limited palette, at least for Riders of Rhea and this :P
I do want to do more adventures, I really enjoy making them. Part of making this game was to build up some tools in unity to make it easy to make adventure games in future.
Cool, I hope you guys can do some interesting things with the point and click genre. I've never been a huge fan of the format, tho I loved Sam & Max Hit the Road. Most of the time it's grab a walkthru and hope the visuals and story are good.
Like I was super pumped to play Gemini Rue, because I heard there was gunfights in it, but... got stuck on the first 'puzzle'. I pretty much expected that but it was still disappointing. Your previous games have cool concepts that are well-executed, so I figure you can avoid wonky scenarios/solutions.
Also, playing this the same day I get to see a Blade Runner trailer? Thanks kismet, old buddy.

I've been playing with text to speech recently. After giving up on FreeTTS as more trouble than alternative approaches, I've been able to develop classes for the purpose for Windows (using a VBScript) and Linux, running in Sun VirtualBox (using a shell script and eSpeak) but I don't have access to, nor have ever so much as touched, a Mac. The Mac-specific code that follows is a cut-paste-edit of a full night's worth of Google searching. I took a look around, but I don't see any topics of this nature here.
This is not exactly a SSCCE, but it is as short as I could make it. If you have a Mac and a little time on your hands, feedback and bug fixes would be most welcome.
Thank you for reading.

Example use: (should work out-of-the-box on Windows XP and above, requires eSpeak to be installed for Linux).

Voice `'?' not found.
I then changed the 'say' line to use an actual name rather than a question mark.
But then it hung because say requires a message.
This thread suggests looking in a directory for the list of available voices.

That's strange. I took that from the official reference. It's even in the examples towards the bottom of that page.
What does that do from the terminal, with and without the single quotes? I'm thinking the single quotes may require quoting or double-quoting when passed from Runtime.exec. There's one line in my Linux implementation that looks like this, I may need something similar here.
I then changed the 'say' line to use an actual name rather than a question mark.

Yes, that I would expect. But the purpose of that method is to retrieve a String array of available voice names (for subsequent use in a JComboBox).
Does this alternative, adapted from a MacScripter topc, work for you?

That would be a last resort, capturing the 'ls' of that directory. Looks like the parsing needed, to get a voice name that can be passed to
Detective Time (itch) (mattie) Mac Os 7
say, is to take the part up to the first dot and insert a space before each uppercase letter (except the first).Thank you again.

Darryl,
I don't know if this will help you or not, but in Terminal, if I type:
say -v bruce hello my name is bruce
the computer speaks in the Bruce voice: hello my name is bruce
If I type only 'say -v bruce' at the beginning then hit enter, I get the beach ball spinning for a few seconds, then whatever I type at the prompt is spoken in the bruce voice once I hit the enter key. Each phrase I have it speak is on one line in the Terminal.
Perhaps this is already known to you, but maybe not.

I ran your first code, and changed the ? to a name like Jeanne did. I stepped it to the while loop that read from the Scanner instance, which ended up being a null reference.
I pasted in your new code, and the terminal output read:
Voice: Ralph Volume: 61
and got a Null pointer in the try block at scripFile.getAbsolutePath() in the speak method.
Hope that helps. :-)

Thank you, Howard. Should I conclude that the man page for say is in error? Or am I looking at a page that's for a version later than that you're testing on?
edit Oh, I see that say -v '?' appears for ver. 10.7.4 and isn't there for 10.6.
What about the second option, the one uising NSSpeechSynthesizer? Does that fly?

Far be it from me to declare a manual in error. I just typed some stuff into Terminal and reported to you what happened. :-)
I am running Lion. I did not consult the manual, just typed in a few commands to test how 'say' worked.
If you want me to test something specific, just ask. :-)
Cheers
